Why Consider an Accounting Fundamentals Micro-Credential?

Employment in the Accounting field is projected to grow 7% from 2020 to 2030.  Employers everywhere are searching for individuals with this skill set, both to hire and to promote.  This program is designed to teach individuals:

GCC’s Accounting Fundamentals Micro-Credential provides valuable groundwork for:

Learning & Skill Development

The Accounting Fundamentals Micro-Credential is comprised of four courses: Intro to Financial Accounting (ACC101), Intro to Managerial Accounting (ACC102), Computer Applications in Accounting (ACC201), and Intro to Income Tax (ACC217).

Topics covered in these four courses include:

  • Create Excel spreadsheets to perform financial analysis.
  • Use QuickBooks to record financial transactions.
  • se QuickBooks to prepare financial statements.
  • Record business events using accounting principles.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements.
  • Perform break-even and return on investment analyses.
  • Prepare budgets and variance analysis.
  • Analyze product costs and perform cost allocations.
  • Communicate financial information in written documents.
  • Prepare income tax returns using tax software.

Attention Employers:

This micro-credential would be beneficial to small organizations looking to gain a better understanding of accounting processes including how to more effectively use tools such as QuickBooks and Excel.  In addition, this credential can serve to support an organization’s promotion and/or succession plan by providing focused, short-term training to new or transitioning employees.

NOTE: This micro-credential is funded through appropriations in the New York State budget beginning in the 2016/17 Fiscal Year and by a $7.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, administered by The Research Foundation for the State University of New York (SUNY RF). The Stay Near, Go Far is funded by a sub-award from the NYS Department of Labor through a U.S. Department of Education Stabilization Fund Reimagine Workforce Preparation grant, administered by SUNY RF.
